We
honestly were not ready for another kitty. But then, is
one ever?
On Friday, March 31, I brought this four month old kitty to her
Forever Home - the Bilbrey Cats residence.
Four days earlier, her young
life almost ended in the middle of a busy highway. My friend Pam, coming home from work,
spotted her laying in the middle of the road, apparently
struck by a vehicle. Pam pulled over and so did the
pick-up truck behind her. Two heroes there, as despite the
busy traffic, the driver of the truck picked up the kitty and
handed her to Pam who asked for her. And so after that,
her on-call vet met her at the clinic; and I received a call from
her while she was waiting for the vet, with her explaining about
what happened....and she then started her highly persuasive attempts to get us to take
the cat
once she was released from the clinic. Fractured pelvis
and a bad abrasion under the left hind leg were the main
injuries. After much discussion, Rodger and I decided
maybe she did belong with us, after such a bad start in life.
Sweetpea did not
initially make the smooth transition into the household that
Katrina did in August 2005. Hissing and swatting by
this injured little girl did not endear her immediately to the
other felines. But there's been quite some improvement
over the initial bad feelings as Sweetpea plays and romps around
with some of the others keeping a close watch over her.
There is still a slight limp and some dragging of her left hind
leg, but there is no slowdown at all in the happy life of this
little girl. Sweetpea seems to be well aware that she is
safe and sound in her forever home.
